Cloverfield

It's been a fairly long time since I went to see a big movie on it's opening night. There tends to be more of an atmosphere when you are in a crowded cinema. Every funny moment has a louder laugh, every scare has a louder jump. Cloverfield had a surprising amount of the former and less of the latter. The plot is basically that a monster has appeared in New York trashing buildings and attacking people. For all you monster movie fans out there you won't be disappointed. The monster aspect of the movie was terrific. The human storyline to the film is not as good. But in this type of movie it's not supposed to be. The camera work does make you a little dizzy by the end as your eyes struggle to focus constantly but it adds to the "realness" of the movie and is a great way to tell the story. Ignore the plot holes, the name of the film and the lengthy intro and go see a great modern monster movie.
On another note. Arthur's in Downtown Huntington is terrific. Put some nice clothes on, make a reservation and head down there. Especially if you like fresh seafood.

If you were in the 9:00pm viewing, we were in the same audience. Which is funny to me, considering I made some comments about, ...well, the audience. :)

Regarding Arthur's: Uh...I gotta put on nice clothes?

TFG: I was in the earlier show. Only the people not cool enough to go at 6:45pm went to the 9:00pm showing :-p

You'll probably need nice clothes, but the lighting is dim so you can get away with a few stains.

Well, that explains it! :)

I thought the movie was just a C+ flick. Maybe that's because I expected more. It was a fine story, just something seemed to be missing.

At least tell me why it's called Cloverfield.

TFG: C+ is about right. Maybe slipping into a B-. I think the problem was that the build up was so huge.

SA: Well I hope i'm not spoiling anything but in the movie.........it's the codename for the military operation.

In real life it's named after a Boulevard where the Bad Robot Studios were based while filming.

Mmmmmmm... seafood!!! I've never heard of Arthur's, but I haven't been in Huntington for a year. Dang! Has it been that long?!?!? I'll have to go check it out.

As for the movie -- sounds great! I'll definitely check this one out!

No, you didn't spoil a thing. Actually I'm a freak that likes to know the entire plot of a movie before watching it.
